Library Summer Reading Coordinator
Total hours per week: 35 hrs per week
Compensation: $18.00/hr
Note: This position consists of varied schedules – the successful candidate will be required to work day, evening and weekend shifts.
This is a Canada Summer Jobs grant position:
- It is open to youth aged 15 – 30
- The position is dependent on receiving the Summer Jobs grant
Position Summary
The MPL Summer Reading Coordinator is an outgoing and creative person who is able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment and has a passion for literacy, programming, and community outreach. This position includes:
- preparing for the launch, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of the Summer Reading Program
- preparing and leading activities for patrons of all ages, especially in relation to the Summer Reading Club
- participating in the Library’s summer outreach programming and promoting the library as a safe and supportive learning and leisure centre
- assisting staff as needed with other tasks related to providing library services. Evening and weekend work is required.
What do you need to bring to this position?
Education or experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
- Early Childhood Education / Child and Youth Studies
- Communications / Recreation and Leisure Studies
- Education / Sociology
A motivated and outgoing personality with a passion for helping the community and the ability to think outside the box.
Previous experience in creating and delivering programs for the public will be considered an asset.
Ability to project a positive, helpful image to the public.
Effective and creative problem solving and trouble-shooting skills.
Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
Comfort working with patrons of all ages including children, adults, seniors, etc.
Physical requirements: This position will include periods of frequent standing, bending, lifting and carrying library materials of up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling book carts up to 125 pounds.
Note: This position consists of varied schedules which include day, evening and weekend shifts.
